2–0 against Vittsjö: "It’s especially emotional to see Elli score the first goal"

Hello, football fans!

It has been an intense weekend of football—both Saturday and Sunday!

Last Saturday, as I walked through Pildammsparken, a few "harbingers of doom" sat in the trees, croaking away ahead of the derby match between Rosengård and Vittsjö. But I chose not to listen to them.

Having followed the week’s training sessions as usual, I had a good feeling about the match. When asked what result I expected, I predicted a 2–1 win for Rosengård.

That was, of course, a bit deliberately optimistic, given that we hadn’t scored two goals in a single match for a long time. I was also well aware that matches against Vittsjö tend to be low-scoring affairs.

Unfortunately, head coach Fran Alonso had to make a change on the day of the match. Alice Enehov had come down with a fever, so Emma Pennsäter had to get match-ready on very short notice.

Emma had sat out Friday’s training session due to a minor muscle injury, but thanks to some taping by the rehab team, she was able to play the entire match.

As you likely already know, it ended in a 2–0 home victory for Rosengård. Elli Pikkujämsä scored the opener in the first half, and Remy Seimsen sealed the final score with ten minutes left on the clock.

For those of us who follow the team at every training session, seeing Elli score that first goal was particularly moving.

For over a year—day after day, week after week—we’ve watched her working in the gym, grinding away on a stationary bike, and jogging lap after lap around the pitch, all in an effort to get her injured knee back in shape.

Finally, she was ready for a match! And then she got the chance to play as a forward—which turned out to be a stroke of genius by coach Alfonso!

When Elli was signed last summer, it was as a center-back.

As always, I’ve rewatched the match, and it reinforces my view that it was one of the best performances of the season.

The defensive play across the entire pitch worked exactly as they had practiced during the week. Consequently, Moa, in goal, had her quietest match in a long time.

Once again, she managed to keep a clean sheet!

The victory was significant—not only for maintaining a gap from the dreaded relegation zone, but also for giving the home crowd the joy of seeing two goals. That’s something the fans haven’t exactly been spoiled with this autumn.

Naturally, there was also great joy among the players and the coaching staff, who put in fantastic work all week and are finally seeing the rewards for all their hard effort.

Next weekend, the team heads to Stockholm, where RosengĂĄrd will face AIK at Skytteholm.

AIK has had a very strong season and is battling MFF for third place—and the chance to play in the Champions League next autumn.

While AIK did lose to MFF this past Saturday, they are still very much in the running for a top-three finish.

It’s sure to be a tough match, and Rosengård will need to carry over everything they did well against Vittsjö if they hope to bring any points back home to Skåne.

I’m happy to report that the "doomsayers" were nowhere to be seen when I headed home after the match.

But even though this win provides some breathing room, the battle at the bottom of the table remains tight. RosengĂĄrd will almost certainly need at least one more win to feel safe from relegation or the relegation play-offs.

Last Sunday, I watched Häcken defeat Hammarby 3–0, effectively tightening their grip on the 2026 Swedish championship title.

Congratulations to Häcken! They are performing exceptionally well, and their success sets a benchmark for other clubs to emulate.

So, my fellow football fans, let’s look forward to another exciting week of football—and hopefully, we’ll catch up again after my trip to the capital.
